LATRINE KEEPS MY FAMILY SAFE
Choun Borith is the name of a man who is living in Troak village, Tasous commune, Svay Chrum district and Svay Rieng province. There are 6 people in his family, his mother, his wife, and 3 kids. His home is located in the middle of the rice field quite far from other villagers.
Before getting the latrine from Kone Kmeng, Borith’s family members used the rice field or the small bushes around the home. They realized that they faced a lot of problems from doing so but there were no choices for them to find a better way to avoid doing an open defecation. The problems they faced were being raped (his wife and his two daughters), being bitten by the snakes or other insects like mosquitoes, being embarrassed by some other people who see what they are doing in the rice field (Pooping). He knew that open defecation also cause many sicknesses to his family especially his kids, they used the water from the field for bathing, drinking and other daily activities without knowing about the illnesses can that spread from their poop.
But in 2015 a pastor from this village went to his home for the church ministry and shared with him a lot about God’s word and also the way that they can improve their health by practicing good hygiene at home. Also told them about Kone Kmeng working to help the poor community and then he requested a latrine from Kone Kmeng and 2 months later he received a response.
After getting the latrine from Kone Kmeng, his family is really enjoying this because it lets his family stop pooping in the rice field. They don’t have to go to the bushes around the home. The smell that always annoys everyone in the home, the risks that they used to face with, the chances to be bitten by the snakes or insects, the chances to be embarrassed from other people are off. He recognizes that the illnesses that the family used to have are reduced. ”Thanks to Kone Kmeng for providing us a perfect latrine to let us have access to good hygiene especially stopping us from open defecation” Borith said.
